Since 1955, polling day has been held every day in the week but for Friday. The most popular days that have been fixed by the Election Commission for voting to take place has predictably been Saturday and Sunday.
In the last 12 elections, polling has been held on Saturday thrice (1964, 1969, 1974), Sunday three times also (1986, 1990, 2004), Monday twice (1978, 1999), Tuesday once (1995), Wednesday twice (1955, 1959) and Thursday once (1982).
But with voting day for the 2008 general election being held on March 8, Saturday tops the list as the all time favourite day for the polls in
